About Me

My name is Randall (Randy) Lyman and I’m a hunting enthusiast. Ever since I was old enough and responsible enough to carry a gun, my dad would take my brother and I out to shoot guns. We’d target practice for hours because we loved it and we got to spend time with our hero.

We’d even have little competitions between us to see who was most accurate. It seemed like dad always won those, but then he’d always take us out for ice cream afterward, so we forgot all about who won.

I grew up on a small farm in Oregon and my brother and I were only 2 years apart so we did everything together.

When we were 10 and 12, we each got a .22 rifle and the fun never stopped. Dad made us learn how to shoot with open sights. He taught us all about gun safety. By this time, we both had taken the hunter’s safety classes and I was old enough to put in for a tag.

My first hunt ever, I’ll never forget. There is just something about the first time that always brings back memories. The cold air, the smell of the mountains, the excitement, the adrenaline, being with my dad and brother, the hard work, the exhaustion… It’s what makes hunting so enjoyable. I’ll admit, my first hunt, I did not harvest anything. We hunted our guts out and only saw one buck that we could even shoot. I was so excited to shoot my first buck that I was shaking uncontrollably and didn’t even come close to it. I learned very quickly that hunting was not as easy as I thought it would be. It required a lot of patience, hiking, and spotting. It was a lot of work!! But I’ll never forget those times with my Dad and brother.

3 years later, I was able to redeem myself and shot my first buck ever. And what an awesome experience that was. I learned how to dress a deer properly, how to make deer burger, steaks, and even some jerky. I have always enjoyed hunting, the thrill, the challenge, the hard work, and the satisfaction that comes with it.

I’ve enjoyed passing down what was taught to me by my dad, now to my boy. It was very exciting to watch him shoot his first buck deer because it brought back all the emotions when I went with my dad.

This is a picture of my boy (Kade) and his mom with both of their first bucks. The smile on his face is priceless as he too learned how to dress a deer.

This is one of the reasons I decided to start this website. I wanted for him and I to give back and continue to pass on helpful information, tools, and tips that can make the hunting experience more enjoyable. Many things have changed since I first started hunting. Equipment and gear always seem to be improved over the years and it continues to change.

We’ve been on a lot of hunting trips together and just the memories alone are worth more to me than anything. It’s also much more enjoyable when you have the right gear and equipment.

From time to time, we’ll review gear that we feel may help others fulfill a good hunting experience and become lifelong hunters.

I know I don’t know everything, but I will do my best to provide honest reviews of products. And if I don’t like something, I will tell you. I also love getting feedback or even hunting stories from individuals across the world. So feel free to join the community, leave me some comments or even add to what’s here.
